Down Town, LA _Project 09 #18

Last night I was up late and could not sleep. I was thinking about these photos I shot. It seems that every time I go out to shoot around my house this uneasy felling comes over me. I’m constantly watching my back I never know if im going to get jacked or some thing. Right about then there is a bang! That sounded like a gun shoot. Then there were three more and I knew they were gun shoots. I went to the window to see what was going on outside. There is a car driving down the street in reverse with its lights off. The police showed up 5 minuets later witch is funny because the station is a block away. That just makes me think why am I doing this project? I don’t really have an answer right now either? The good news is im going to be shooting photos in Watts and South Central Los Angles for the next two-week or so. Because Down Town LA is not sketchy enough. Hahaha. Things are adding up.

don't lose heart ian. muslims have a word thatthey say whenever they hope for something to happen,"inshallah", it litterally translates to mean 'God willing' in other words hope for the best in everything that you do but have the willingness to accept whatever happens in the end as something that was meant to be. you're great at what you do and you're a man on a mission. don't forget it :)

Growing up in Detroit I felt like that all the time...it stayed with me my whole life. The only time I felt like I could let my guard down a little was while I was living in Tahoe...but it does make you realize the moment and life. Your pictures are amazing, never let your guard down there!

Ian, these are so powerful... For me, they evoke the seamy southern California of Raymond Chandler's hard-boiled Philip Marlowe novels of the 30's and 40's. Keep up the amazing work!

LA...wow...you had me at ian, but now I'm really hooked. I've never seen LA like this. It has always been an evil thing. Thanks for the new eyes!
